ATTRITION | A SHORT FILM
The film that started it all (for fans of speculative fiction and Orwellian dramas)
Hi, this will be quick and a bit informal.
Tomorrow, I’m doing something bold—I’m posting the first five pages of my speculative fiction series pilot. I don’t know anyone who’s done this before, but I’m committed.
Before I do that, I wanted to give my new Substack subscribers the chance to watch what came first. This series, as I’ve come to write it, started from a disturbing conversation. It lived as a thought in my mind, then became a feature-length short, then a feature. After receiving a grant to produce a piece of it, it became a short film again. In that form, it was produced, released, won festival awards, and now lives on my YouTube channel.
So before I debut any pages from the series, here’s a link to my film for your viewing pleasure:
This is interesting.
We need more films and series in the science-fiction genre as a collective.
"The Decade of Grandeur" — a phrase that could define the political landscape of 2025.
In my assessment, sci-fi is a playground for a culturally bold imagination.
It’s an untapped space for black storytellers willing to push the boundaries of race, power, and politics.
It’ll be interesting to see where you take it creatively.
I personally would like to see more of a daring approach in the genre.
From struggle to complete power storylines — instead of victimization.
If any genre could bear the weight of such ambition, it’s science fiction.
Keep going.
Nice work.
